Retail openings compress a lot of infrastructure into a short window. This checklist is for NSO, IT, operations, and facilities teams who need the low-voltage environment to be reliable — not just “installed” — before the doors open.

Before field work starts

  • Store drawings reviewed against the actual site layout and exceptions noted
  • Opening date, blackout windows, and after-hours access confirmed
  • Scope split clearly between cabling, WiFi, CCTV, voice, signage, and alarm-related work
  • Materials lead time checked against the opening schedule
  • Single accountable field contact identified for site questions

Cabling and closets

  • MDF/IDF locations confirmed and accessible
  • Pathways and penetrations approved for the site
  • Copper runs planned for POS, APs, cameras, and back-of-house needs
  • Labeling scheme agreed before termination starts
  • Rack layout leaves room for patching and future MACD work

WiFi readiness

  • AP locations reviewed against coverage and capacity needs
  • Cabling and mounting paths confirmed for each AP
  • Guest and staff SSID requirements documented
  • Controller or cloud platform ownership clear between trades

CCTV and security infrastructure

  • Coverage zones defined for entrances, sales floor, stock, and receiving
  • Camera count and mounting heights aligned with operations
  • Cabling paths coordinated with ceiling and millwork schedules
  • Alarm-related low-voltage scope coordinated with licensed partners where required

Voice and signage

  • Phone locations and cutover window defined
  • PoE and switching readiness confirmed for voice endpoints
  • Digital signage locations, power, and data paths confirmed
  • Media player connectivity and mounting responsibilities clear

Testing and turn-up

  • Copper certification planned where the scope requires proof
  • Fiber testing completed for backbone links before turn-up
  • WiFi validation planned after install, not assumed from design alone
  • Critical devices tested against the actual opening configuration

Closeout before handoff

  • Port maps and labeling match what is installed
  • Photos captured for racks, closets, and non-standard field conditions
  • Open items and site exceptions listed plainly
  • Support contacts and next-step notes documented for store and IT teams

When several systems overlap

Store openings rarely stay in one service lane. The risk is not missing a single device — it is handing over a site where POS, WiFi, cameras, and voice were installed in separate silos with no shared closeout standard.
